Chocolate Chocolate Cookies {Milk Bar Monday 7/16}

chocolate chocolate cookies

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to post. Actually my last post was the Sweet Corn Cereal Milk Ice Cream Pie.

I’ve found I always manage to make time for our Milk Bar Mondays. This has quickly become my favorite posting group to be apart of.

Christina’s book has taught me a lot about baking and I feel I am much more confident in the kitchen because of the recipes I have learned for MBM.

Some of the most beneficial so far:

  • Birthday Layer Cake – a true recreation of one of my favorite boxed cake mixes. Make me thing about how contrasting flavors work so well. Also, Christina’s way of building cakes is brilliant.

  • Cinnamon Bun Pie – the mother dough and liquid cheesecake recipes are some of the most valuable recipes in the whole book.

  • Compost Cookies – think outside the box! Also taught me proper mixing procedure for all her cookies.

I also love that all of us are able to talk about the recipes as we make them. For example, these chocolate cookies.

Cassie e-mailed us about her experience with the recipe. Some of the girls cut down on the butter like Cassie did, while others stuck to the recipe.

I decided to compensate a different way. Just to see how mine might turn out compared to everyone else’s. Instead of cutting down on the butter I added 3/4 of the chocolate crumbs instead of half, and I mixed the dry ingredients in for a full 40 seconds (instead of my usual 20ish). [Read more...]

Chocolate Cookies Stuffed with Rolos

Chocolate Cookies

I’m sure you’ve heard about The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap (even if you didn’t want to).

Thanks to the hard work by Lindsay of Love & Olive Oil and Julie of The Little Kitchen 625 of us signed up to swap cookies.

This is how it worked… You signed up and committed yourself to sending out 3 dozen cookies (1 dozen to 3 different people) by December 5th. And in return you received 3 different packages of cookies.

We all kept our matches a secret, then anxiously awaited their arrival.

When I was trying to decide what cookie recipe to make I thought of a classic flavor combination….chocolate and caramel.

I found this recipe a while back but never got around to making it. I thought this would be perfect for the swap and I hoped my recipients would enjoy them. [Read more...]

Chocolate Cookies with Candied Ginger

3 stacked cookies

After moving into a new house in a different state for the summer I was feeling a little homesick. This is my parents house, and luckily I’m not living alone for the summer.

But I still wanted something to comfort me.

For me chocolate = comfort. Not in the way that I have to have it, but it warms me up and makes me feel better.

That must by why chocolate was the candy of choice to get rid of the feelings dementors leave behind…

I really wanted to make cookies. Cookies are homey, comforting, and they make the whole house smell good. And of course, what’s better then a chocolate cookie?

After looking through my cabinet I found cocoa powder and candied ginger…perfect! I love chocolate covered candied ginger. This was bound to be a winner.

The cookies are rich and chewy, and the ginger is a nice surprise. And they are irresistible when dipped in a glass of ice cold milk.

If you make these cookies, I hope they fill your house with the wonderful scent and feeling of home.

Homemade Oreos

3 oreos and a glass of milk

How do you eat an Oreo?

Do you chomp it fully intact, or do you pull it apart and eat it layer by layer? Do you dunk it in milk, or not?

There really is no wrong way to eat an Oreo, but I personally like to fully submerged them a glass of cold milk.

I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love milk’s favorite cookie. The crispy chocolate wafer cookies, and the overly sweet creme disk are way too tasty. I can’t help but to love them.

If you find yourself craving these little sugar bombs, you should try making your own!

It’s hard to beat the classic, but making your own is much more fun. And you can cut out some of the preservatives. [Read more...]

Brownie Cookies, A Delicious Hybrid

Brownie Cookies

If you are wondering what exactly a brownie cookie is, wonder no longer!

A brownie cookie is simply a very chocolaty, chewy cookie that is less dense then a brownie. Delicous.

I first saw brownie cookies available at my local grocery store. I immediately bought a box. I had to try these amazing creations!

Of course they turned out to be just as delicious as I expected. We devoured every single one.

One day my sister requested a recipe for brownie cookies. I did a quick little search and found this recipe from Linzers in London.

I chose this recipe for it’s intense chocolate flavor. Even a chocoholic would be satisfied after one.

The intense chocolate ends up being a great base for something like nuts, fruit, or even caramel. And they are so simple you might as well not bother trying to resist!
