Crumb Cake

Do you have that one recipe from your childhood that you remember being “the best thing ever.”

And this is the recipe you would have done anything to get it so that you could enjoy your favorite thing over and over and over again.

This crumb cake is that recipe for me.

At one time in my life I was a competitive swimmer. I swam for the local swim club and my high school.

My high school had required morning practices multiple times a week…it was brutal. But on every morning practice before a meet & every friday we had swim breakfasts.

The parents brought in the typical fare; biscuits and gravy, fruit, bagels, smoothies, casseroles…

But my friend’s mom made this crumb cake (we referred to it as crack cake) that was out of this world. She swore she would never give up the recipe but she finally decided to add it to her blog, making me one happy baker.

This is a basic coffee cake but it’s the perfect base to fruit, nuts, or chocolate chips.

I hope you have the chance to make this coffee cake and that you find it as addictive as I do.

Cinnamon Rolls

cinnamon rolls

I used to think cinnamon rolls were just like any other sweet breakfast treat. All of that sweet dough, plus sugar and butter then to top it all of a pure sugar glaze.

Not that I didn’t love all that sweetness, or the characteristic pop of the tube, it just wasn’t my favorite sweet thing.

I will admit, I loved the occasional Cinnabon. But they were only a really special treat when we were traveling so I didn’t get too attached.

When we (the #milkbarmonday ladies) made the cinnamon bun pie a few weeks ago, I became smitten with breakfast items.

And to use up the second half of my mother dough, what could be better than cinnamon rolls filled with liquid cheesecake?!

Are you a breakfast fan? What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

Cinnamon Bun Pie {Milk Bar Monday}

cinnamon bun pie

It’s time for another Milk Bar Monday! What is Milk Bar Monday? It is a group that consists of me + 7 other ladies, and we are baking our way through the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook. Buy the cookbook here to bake along with us at home!

This week I was the host! I chose Christina’s Cinnamon Bun Pie.

When I was reading through the book the mother dough chapter was calling my name.

Between the croissants, volcanoes and brioche I wasn’t sure what to pick first. Finally I decided to stick to my roots and go for the sweet stuff.

The cinnamon bun pie is a lovely pie version of the ultimate cinnamon roll. Gooey, rich, and comforting.

Perfect for a brunch or big breakfast, but also a delicious ending to any dinner. I must admit, I snacked on this constantly.

Meyer Lemon Cranberry Scones

Once I had discovered I liked fresh cranberries, I stocked up. Fortunately cranberries keep very well, so I made sure to buy plenty just in case I had a sudden cranberry craving.

Not long after I had bought the cranberries did I find myself wanting to bake something delicious….

I pondered what would go well with the cranberries. After thinking about some of the flavors I used in the candied cranberries, I decided to go with something citrusy.

I went with scones because I recently made some organic pumpkin scones that went over well. There are so many different varieties of scones, and they are so conveniently sized!

I made a huge batch of these scones and sent some home with my boyfriend over Thanksgiving. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the bright flavor from the Meyer lemon zest and fresh cranberry combo.

And you would not believe how long they kept the fresh baked smell.
