Organic Vanilla Hemp Bliss

As you know, I have been trying out different types of ingredients to see what’s out there. This week when I was at Whole Foods I saw this Hemp Bliss drink.

It was in the same section as almond milk, rice milk, and coconut milk. There was also an original, chocolate, and unsweetened hemp drink. But I wanted some sweetness so I opted for the vanilla.

At first I was slightly skeptical of what this could taste like. I am not the biggest fan of rice milk, so I hoped it wasn’t like that and was more like almond or coconut milk.

To give the beverage a proper taste test, I ate it with cereal, used it in my coffee, and drank it as is.

It was delicious with cereal, and had a very similar consistency to cows milk. I personally liked the hemp milk better for cereal then the coconut milk. But, I was not a fan of the hemp milk in my coffee. I thought it would taste delicious, and that I wouldn’t need to add any extra sugar which was going to be a major bonus. But the coffee seemed to slightly change the flavor of the milk, and the milk somehow made the coffee taste much more bitter then I anticipated.

Over all, it tastes delicious. The vanilla hemp milk was not overly sweet, and it wasn’t a heavy drink. I would be more likely to add this into my diet then something like soy milk, or rice milk. It would be a tough competition between this a coconut milk, but this one might win in my book.

If you are wondering about the nutrition facts…do not fear! Hemp milk is good for you! Well…relatively good for you. I imagine the original or unsweetened variety would be slightly healthier then the vanilla flavor. But this is way better for you then a soda!

What type of “alternative” ingredient should I try next??

Organic Coconut Milk

How many of you drink milk everyday?

I rarely drink milk. Bad habit, I know. It doesn’t taste bad, I just prefer juice or water. But, milk is good for the body, and I should want to drink it!

I have been trying to break this bad habit, but I’ve had very little luck. I’ve been drinking soy milk on and off for years, but I get tired of the taste and eventually go back to cow’s milk.

I’ve also tried almond milk, and rice milk. I like almond milk, but I find rice milk too watery and lacking in flavor.

Besides being an ingredient in some Thai and Indian dishes, I hadn’t heard much about coconut milk. I find it intriguing. I love using organic coconut oil in my recipes and I love drinking coconut water, so I don’t know why I wouldn’t like coconut milk.

I would have started drinking it long ago, but I always forgot to buy it when I was grocery shopping.

Until the other day…

I was aimlessly wondering around Marsh, trying to find some inspiration for another dinner, when I stumbled across So Delicious Coconut Milk.

It was sitting on the top shelf, way too far from eye level. Let me just say, I was a little too excited that I had found something this interesting at a Marsh in West Lafayette.

If you don’t already know, Purdue sits in the middle of nowhere. There are farms, and that is about it. This is a farm community and people around here are scared of change. They like corn, cows, soybeans, pick up trucks, other things of that nature. I imagine coconut milk has been on the market for awhile, but this little farm town is behind the curve.

I had to buy myself a box. I had to know what it tasted like, if I would like it, and if it could help me change my milk drinking habits.
