Strawberry-Shortcake-with-Basil-Whipped-Cream

Hello everyone! Today I have my friend Addie here with a delicious guest post. Don’t forget to stop by her site, Culicurious.com to check out what I made for her! -BFB

Hi, my name is Addie Martin, and I’m the creative force behind Culicurious, a blog based on table-centered living. My main focus is recipes, but I also blog about restaurant, bar and travel experiences plus a little gardening. I’m thrilled to be here today sharing a recipe with all of you here at Big Fat Baker.

Since the new year’s upon us, many people have resolutions to eat better. I know that’s a constant goal of mine and something I am able to stick to pretty well…. most of the time! But every once in a while you need a break, an indulgence of sorts.

This recipe aims to fill that void – a strawberry shortcake made with minimal sugar and whole wheat pastry flour. Plus it’s topped with a fresh basil whipped cream. It’s sweet and rich without being “bad for you.” [Read more...]

Cherry Biscoff Blondies {Guest Post on The Baker Chick}

Biscoff Blondies

You know my friend Audra from The Baker Chick? (She is also the creator of my favorite group, Milk Bar Mondays)

Guess what…she got married this weekend! Hooray! So a few of us got together to do some guest post recipes for her.

I made these delicious blondies using one of my new favorite things, Biscoff spread. And because it’s the end of summer I threw in a few handfuls of chopped cherries.  While you’re there, you should definitely check out Krissy’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Shortbread Bars. They look amazing!

So stop by The Baker Chick today and get the recipe for this delicious end of summer dessert!

How to Make a Simple Themed Birthday Cake

Today I am sharing another user submitted guest post with you on how to make a themed birthday cake! If you are interested in guest posting on BigFatBaker contact me here.

At some point in your life, you may want to make a themed birthday cake, whether it’s a dinosaur cake for a child’s party or another type of themed cake to make an adult’s party more festive.

Themed cakes require a little more effort to prepare than typical cakes. When you’re making a themed cake, you have to spend some extra time cutting the cake out into a fun shape and decorating the cake.

If you’re going to make a themed cake, here are some of the things you’ll probably need to do:

1. Bake the cake – Pick out what flavor cake you want to bake based on the preferences of the recipient of the cake. If you want to make a simple, vanilla cake, you can try out this recipe:

These monstrous cookies are crunchy, chewy, sweet and a little salty. And totally chockfull of rainbow sprinkles! How awesome, right?

So stop on by The German Foodie and check out these cookies today!

Tropical Cocoa Cupcakes {Guest Post on The Spice & Tea Exchange Blog}

Tropical Cocoa Cupcake

Just last week I had the chance to create something wonderful.

The Spice and Tea Exchange sent me two packs (1 ounce each) of their specialty Tropical Cocoa Mix with the challenge to bake something.

I was intrigued. Tropical cocoa powder? What a lovely idea.

I gave it a whiff. It smells like vanilla and coconut, but tastes like paradise. I couldn’t wait to get to the kitchen!

After a bit of brainstorming I came up with these Tropical Cocoa Cupcakes with Coconut Swiss Meringue Buttercream.

Get the recipe over at The Spice and Tea Exchange blog!

And don’t forget to get some of your very own tropical cocoa powder today!
